Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, I went to the village of Blankensee, which is located by the lake of the same name.

Ships from China, India, Arabia and Europe passed through the Strait of Malacca, carrying silk, porcelain, spices and gold. Whoever controlled this city controlled trade between East and West.
Today, Malacca looks calm and unassuming. Low buildings, a red colonial square, temples, narrow streets of Chinatown.
Only when you learn its history do you begin to understand how significant this place once was.

To nie jest metafora. W XV wieku ten port kontrolował jeden z najważniejszych szlaków handlowych świata. Statki z Chin, Indii, Arabii i Europy przepływały przez Cieśninę Malakka, przewożąc jedwab, porcelanę, przyprawy i złoto. Kto kontrolował to miasto, kontrolował handel między Wschodem a Zachodem.
Dzisiaj Malacca wygląda spokojnie i niepozornie. Niskie budynki, czerwony kolonialny plac, świątynie, wąskie uliczki Chinatown.
Dopiero kiedy poznasz jej historię, zaczynasz rozumieć, jak ogromne znaczenie miało to miejsce.
