Five centuries ago, Malacca controlled the flow of global trade. Ships from China, India, Arabia and Europe passed through this narrow stretch of water, carrying silk, porcelain, spices and gold. Whoever controlled this city controlled the wealth between East and West. In this solo travel vlog, I explore Malacca, Malaysia and uncover why this small city was once worth more than gold. From colonial powers fighting over its port to temples, museums and streets that still reflect its layered past — Malacca tells a story far bigger than it looks. I visit the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum to understand the Peranakan culture shaped by trade and migration. I walk through Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, the oldest functioning Chinese temple in Malaysia, and cross over to Dutch Square, where European colonial architecture stands in the middle of Southeast Asia. Jonker Street shows a different side of the city — still driven by commerce, still alive, just in a new form. And finally, I head to the Malacca Straits Mosque, a modern landmark by the sea, where religion, architecture and location come together in one powerful setting. This trip wasn’t just about history. It was about seeing how global trade shaped identities, cultures and everyday life in a place that today feels calm and almost ordinary.
