As for the fauna, lynx, deer and wild boars can be found here, along with many bird species, including white-tailed eagles and owls.
While hiking through this rocky labyrinth, where incredible formations take the shape of pillars, walls or towers, you will feel like you have entered a completely different world. Broumovske Steny how to get there and where to park without stress
Broumovske Steny is a must-see destination, but you still need to get there somehow. No car? That’s not a problem. Driving something small? That’s fine too. Logistically, getting there can be a bit tricky, but I’ll try to explain how and with what you can reach the area. If you’re driving, there are also several parking spots where you can leave your car without stress and start your hike right away.
Getting there by bus
You can get to the town of Broumov, where the entrance to Broumovske Steny begins, by bus from many Polish cities. Buses to Hradec Králové run from Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków, Katowice, Łódź, Poznań, Legnica, Jelenia Góra and Świdnica. There, you simply transfer to a local bus to Broumov.
You can reach Broumov directly only from two Czech cities – Hradec Králové and Meziměstí. This means that all other routes lead through one of these two hubs.
If you’re coming from Prague, Pardubice, Brno or Liberec, the best option is to travel via Hradec Králové. On the other hand, travelers from Náchod, Lichkov or Starkoč should transfer in Meziměstí. These two towns are the main transfer points for anyone heading toward Broumovske Steny.
Major European cities such as Berlin, Vienna, Bratislava or Budapest are well connected to Prague. From there, you can easily continue your journey through Hradec Králové to Broumov.
Getting there by train
When it comes to trains, things are a bit more complicated. In many cases, two, three or even four transfers are necessary. It all depends on which Polish city you start your journey from.
From Kudowa-Zdrój, you can travel to the Czech town of Náchod, then transfer to Meziměstí, and from there easily reach Broumov. If you’re traveling from Wrocław or Wałbrzych, there are direct trains to Meziměstí, where you’ll find a convenient local connection to Broumov. Travelers coming from Duszniki-Zdrój, Polanica-Zdrój, Bystrzyca Kłodzka or Nowa Ruda should first get to Kłodzko, then head toward Lichkov. From there, you can reach Meziměstí and then travel directly to Broumov.
This route requires a bit more planning, but it offers plenty of options and allows you to reach the Broumovske Steny area without needing a car.
You can reach Broumov directly by train only from Meziměstí. This means that every rail connection, no matter where you start from, will go through that town. Cities like Prague, Brno, Pardubice and other Czech locations offer connections with a transfer in Meziměstí.
The same applies to international trains. Travelers coming from Berlin, Vienna, Bratislava or Budapest must first reach Prague and then continue their journey through Meziměstí to Broumov.
If needed, train connections can of course be combined with bus routes, which gives you more flexibility and allows you to better match the route to your departure time.
Getting there by car
Depending on which option and trail you choose, there are several parking possibilities. Below I’ve listed the ones I found while planning my own trip.
Keep in mind that highways in the Czech Republic are toll roads and you need a vignette. Before you set off, check your route carefully and buy the appropriate vignette to avoid an unpleasant surprise in the form of a fine. It’s better to be prepared than to stress during your trip.
You can buy the vignette online, at gas stations or at sales points near the border. Inspections are fairly common, so don’t take the risk and take care of it in advance.

Entrance to Broumovske Steny is completely free and accessible all year round. The only fees you might encounter are related to parking, and even those don’t apply everywhere. It’s also worth remembering that some sections may be temporarily closed for nature protection. The entire area belongs to CHKO, the Broumov Protected Landscape Area, so please behave responsibly and respect the natural environment.
Must-see places in Broumovske Steny
Depending on which route you choose in Broumovske Steny, you’ll come across several places you truly can’t miss. The Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows, known as Hvězda and built in the shape of a five-pointed star, the Rock Theatre, Kovářova rokle, Kamenné Hříby, Kamenná Brána, Koruna, Špičák — and honestly? I could go on forever, because in my opinion, every spot in Broumovske Steny is amazing and worth seeing. From my trail, I chose three places that I consider absolute must-sees. And what I didn’t get to see this time, I’ll definitely catch up on next time. Remember, that’s always a good reason to come back.
Koruna where magic meets nature
I have to admit that getting to Koruna was an attraction in itself. Squeezing between rocks and walking along narrow paths surrounded by stone walls is just part of the challenge. Along the way, there’s also a viewpoint if you decide to see where the path leads. Koruna stands at just 769 meters above sea level, but it’s the main destination for hikers for a reason. Have you ever dreamed of swinging on a swing while admiring a panoramic view of the landscape? In Broumovske Steny, it’s possible and absolutely worth a try.
Kamenná Brána a natural portal in the heart of the Czech Republic
It is here in Broumovske Steny that the magical gate to another world can be found. Have you heard the legend? Long ago, when the world was still cloaked in mystery, there was a stone gate said to be a portal to another dimension. They say that beyond it lay a realm of spirits and extraordinary beings that did not appear in our world. The brave and fearless could pass through the portal and return to their world with new wisdom and strength. Not everyone came back. Some vanished without a trace, leaving behind the mystery of their journey. Or perhaps the spirits welcomed them into their own world? To this day, the legend draws many travelers who believe that the gate is more than just a stone formation. And you? Would you dare to step through it?
Božanovský Špičák with a view of the entire region
Božanovský Špičák is the highest peak in Broumovske Steny. It reaches 781 meters above sea level and offers beautiful views of the Table Mountains, the Kamienne Mountains and the Broumov Basin. The summit looks like a giant rock with a railing that you need to climb up. Was it truly that impressive? Personally, I’d say not really. I actually enjoyed the rock animal labyrinth I passed through on the way much more.
Broumovske Steny which trails reveal the most beautiful views
Choosing a route is not an easy task. You need to carefully consider how much time you have, what your expectations are and what the weather is like, because all of that really affects your decision. That’s why I always do thorough research before the trip, just in case something changes and I need to pick a different trail. Luckily, Broumovske Steny offer plenty of options, so everyone can find something that suits them.
Slavný – Špičák – Koruna – Kamenná Brána
The route is about 10 kilometers long, with 300 meters of elevation gain, and should take around 4 hours to complete. It took me over 5, because I took my time at Koruna and completely fell in love with Kamenná Brána. The first part of the trail, marked in red and leading through the forest, is quite boring, but I wouldn’t choose it for the way back either, because the walk to the parking lot would feel endless.
Schelter Pasterka – Špičák – Koruna – Kamenná Brána
This route is about 17.2 kilometers long and includes 538 meters of elevation gain. The estimated walking time is around five and a half hours, although I would personally count on closer to six and a half. You can shorten the route by skipping Božanovský Špičák or, after visiting Kamenná Brána, return the same way instead of completing the full loop.
Hvezda – Skalní Divadlo – Suchodolská Niagara – Mariánské Jasení
The trail is about 10 kilometers long, with 481 meters of elevation gain. It leads through the famous Hvězda Chapel, rock labyrinths, a gorge, caves and narrow passages. This is the route I personally want to hike, and I will definitely come back for it!
Hlavnov – Hvezda – Supí Hnízdo – Kovářova rokle
The route is 6.8 kilometers long, with 252 meters of elevation gain. It takes about three hours to complete and is a relaxed trail that passes by the Hvězda Chapel and the small rock labyrinth of Kovářova rokle. From Hlavňov, you can optionally take a bus one stop up to Hvězda.
Hvezda – Skalní Divadlo – Supí Hnízdo – Kamenná Brána – Koruna – Špičák – Mariánská Jeskyně – Jeskyně Kovářna – Hvezda
This is a demanding route of about 21 kilometers with 800 meters of elevation gain, and it’s worth planning it as a full-day hike. You can start from any parking area close to the trail. It’s a good idea to bring food and be prepared for a longer walk. Along the way, you’ll see all the key spots in the Broumovske Steny area, places that are truly worth visiting. This loop is a great option for those who want to explore this beautiful region in a more complete way.
Where to sleep and what to eat nearby
Finding a hotel or a good restaurant near Broumovske Steny shouldn’t be a problem. There are plenty of options, and you really have a lot to choose from. I personally stayed at Penzion Panorama in Janovičky and also ate there occasionally. The conditions were very comfortable, the price was quite reasonable, and there’s a ski slope right next to it, so the place is also great in the winter season.
