Wang Temple – History and Origins
Who would have thought that in the heart of the Polish Karkonosze Mountains, we would find a true gem of Nordic architecture? The Wang Temple is an extraordinary monument that was brought from the Norwegian village of Vang in the 19th century. Interestingly, this temple dates back to the 12th century, and its history begins in Scandinavia, where it originally served as a church for the Vikings. This remarkable structure found its way to Karpacz thanks to Countess Fryderyka von Reden, whose fascination with Nordic art and culture contributed to the church being placed in this unique location.

Visiting Wang Temple before Conquering Śnieżka
I managed to visit the Wang Temple after at least 15 attempts. I was always either too early or came down the trail too late. This time, I set off early to conquer the summit of Śnieżka and returned around 2 PM. Despite the exhaustion from the 25-kilometer trail, I believe that entering the temple and spending 30-40 minutes exploring it peacefully is worth it. Wang is truly impressive – despite its small size, the wooden carvings take your breath away. The scent of wood and the charm of the chapel are worth the price. It is a must-see on the map of Karpacz, especially as a stop on the way back from Śnieżka.

Also, visit two other extraordinary wooden monuments in Lower Silesia:
The Peace Church in Świdnica, stunning in both architecture and interior,
The Peace Church in Jawor, full of historical charm.
These are must-see spots on the map of every fan of wooden treasures!
