Western Madeira
Similar to the northern coast of Madeira, the west is quite wild and inaccessible. Colorful villages nestled against steep slopes, crystal-clear ocean, and lava pools. It’s hard to believe that this place was only recently cut off from the world!
In the western part of the island, high cliffs dominate, which is why the residents of coastal villages, instead of engaging in fishing, focus mainly on farming on every available piece of land. This is a very peaceful part of the island, even during the peak tourist season, you can sunbathe alone on the beach (especially if it lies at the foot of a several hundred-meter high cliff).

Ponta do Pargo ***
A place famous for its lighthouse and rocky promontory, which is also the westernmost point of Madeira! Beyond that, there is only the Atlantic Ocean and America!
The lighthouse (Farol da Ponta do Pargo) itself is not an architectural marvel. It was built in 1922 due to the high number of shipwrecks. Tourists are primarily drawn by the breathtaking panorama at the promontory and the beautiful sunsets!

Jardim do Mar
The beautiful and powerful waves make Jardim do Mar the best place for surfing on the island. World surfing championships have even been held here! However, this is not the only attraction of this beautiful town. The entire Jardim do Mar is a labyrinth of narrow streets between white houses, often adorned with flowers. The doors of the houses are often “guarded” by cats lounging in the sun. It’s also worth going down to the promenade to enjoy the views!
