Brief History of Kamień Pomorski
The name of the town likely originates from the “Royal Boulder” located 3 kilometers west of the town center. This large glacial erratic, with a circumference of 20 meters, served as a navigational landmark. According to legend, King Bolesław III Wrymouth of Poland stood on this very stone to review naval parades. A wooden stronghold existed here as early as the 9th century, and the settlement was granted town rights in the 13th century. The town is situated on the Kamień Lagoon with access to Chrząszczewska Island.

What to See in Kamień Pomorski?
Kamień Pomorski was largely destroyed during World War II. Nevertheless, it still boasts many noteworthy historical landmarks. Most attractions are concentrated around the historic town square. It is worth taking a walk to see them all.
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
The cathedral was built in the 12th century, with construction lasting nearly 200 years. It is one of the oldest sacred buildings in this part of Pomerania. Today, the cathedral is open to visitors free of charge, offering the opportunity to admire its magnificent organ. Sacred music concerts are also held here.
Tickets: free admission

Replicas of War Machines
Near the Kamień Lagoon, you’ll find replicas of war machines—a great attraction not only for children but also for adults. Among the exhibits are a catapult, a trebuchet, and a battering ram. Each machine is accompanied by an information plaque, making it easy to identify and learn about them.
Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The present Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in the 18th century in the Baroque style. It replaced a 13th-century church that stood on this site and was destroyed by fire.

Labyrinth in Kamień Pomorski
One of the biggest attractions in Kamień Pomorski is the labyrinth located along Voivodeship Road 107. It was built in 2013 and has since drawn crowds of tourists. The labyrinth is made up of coniferous trees, and finding your way out is not as easy as it seems!

Bishop’s Palace
The Bishop’s Palace was built in the 15th century and is one of the few late Gothic and Renaissance buildings in Pomerania that have been preserved in good condition. After being damaged during World War II, it was converted into a library; today, the building houses a church archive.
Gothic Town Hall
Located in the town square, the Gothic Town Hall was built in the 13th century and underwent reconstruction in the 16th century, gaining Renaissance features. During World War II, it was almost completely destroyed, but it was rebuilt after the war. It currently houses the Town Hall.

Wolin Gate and Tower (Stone Museum) + Viewing Point
Built together with the defensive walls, seven towers (which unfortunately no longer exist), and four gates: the Cathedral Gate, the Monastery Gate, the Fishermen’s Gate, and the Butter Gate—the only one that has survived. In 2001, the Stone Museum was established in the tower, featuring a rich collection of minerals, fossils, gemstones, and even meteorites. Even if you’re not interested in the exhibition, it’s worth going inside for the viewing point at the top of the tower.

Museum of the History of the Kamień Land
The Museum of the History of the Kamień Land houses, among other things, archaeological artifacts from the Neolithic, medieval, and Renaissance periods, cathedral collections, and pre-war memorabilia related to the town’s history (photographs, postcards, everyday items).

Wreck of a 19th-Century Sailing Ship
A unique find on a European scale, the wreck of a 19th-century sailing ship was recovered in 2016. Restored and preserved, it is now a highlight of the Kamień Pomorski marina. Next to the wreck, there is an information board worth reading!

Von Kleist Manor House
The former curia, built in the 14th century at Cathedral Square. Numerous fires completely destroyed the building, which was rebuilt in the 18th century and given its current appearance. It was once inhabited by Ewald Jürgen von Kleist, an electricity enthusiast known for the “Kleist bottles.” The building can only be viewed from the outside.

Marina in Kamień Pomorski
After renovation, it is one of the largest and most modern ports on the western coast. The marina in Kamień Pomorski primarily serves as a fishing port but also functions as a harbor for sailors. Located in the town center, it offers over 280 berths. Tourist cruises can also be taken from here!

Footbridge Connecting to Chrząszczewska Island
The footbridge connecting to Chrząszczewska Island is also quite an attraction. The island features a beach and three villages. From the bridge, there is a great view of the entire Kamień Pomorski marina. If you’re not up for a trip to the island, it’s still worth walking at least halfway across the bridge.

Medieval City Walls
The walls date back to the early 14th century and originally surrounded the settlement on three sides. They were reinforced with eight towers, of which only the Wolin Tower and a fragment of the wall with the Butter Gate remain. The latter can be seen from the road running along the lagoon.

Where to Eat in Kamień Pomorski
Along the coast, there are many pubs and restaurants, but I was most charmed by the restaurant located in the market square, “Hotel and Restaurant Pod Muzami.” The area was filled with wonderful aromas, and the restaurant was bustling with people. Despite the crowds, the wait time wasn’t long at all. The food was delicious and fresh, and the service was excellent. I’ve also marked the restaurant on the map below!
Address: Gryfitów 1, 72-400 Kamień Pomorski
