Cisy Castle – The Mysterious Gem of Lower Silesia
In the dense forest, amidst the song of birds, the ruins of the medieval Cisy Castle still stand unmoved, quietly telling their story.
The ruins of Cisy Castle have been familiar to me since the beginning of elementary school. They are located not far from my hometown, and for years, I have been returning to this place. The view of the panorama of the city of Wałbrzych, the forest, the stream, the grilling area, and the all-encompassing silence and tranquility draw me in like a magnet.

Brief History of Cisy Castle
The origins of the castle are not entirely clear. It is believed to have been built at the initiative of the Prince of Świdnica-Jawor in the second half of the 13th century, as one of the many fortresses erected by him and his successors. The castle was built on a hill with rocky, steep slopes, near the Czyżynka stream. Initially, it consisted of a massive, round tower, a small residential building, and a courtyard. However, over the years, the fortress frequently changed owners and was destroyed several times, including during the Hussite Wars and was besieged and burned by King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary, who was fighting for the Czech throne at the time. The castle was also rebuilt several times. In the 15th century, the western courtyard was likely built, and in the following century, the eastern courtyard with a gate. Over the years, a few more minor changes were made, and after the lack of interest, the fortress began to fall into ruin. Only in the 19th century, when romantic ruins became fashionable, did local residents start visiting the old castle, and the remains of the fortress were reconstructed where possible and can be seen to this day.
