Brandenburg, Land of Lakes – Motzener See
Today, I set my sights on Motzener See from the town of Kallinchen. I began my route by visiting the pier near the beach.
Walking from the parking lot towards the lake, I immediately noticed a small pier and a pedal boat rental. Currently, the beach area is under renovation, so I couldn’t get closer. Therefore, I decided to head right from the parking lot, towards the southern end of the lake. Along the lake, there are countless cottages with private piers. A large area is also occupied by a campsite. After about 30 minutes, I finally reached a patch of greenery where I could get closer to the lake and take a breather on a bench.
I walked three-quarters of the route towards the southern part of the lake and decided to turn back towards the parking lot. The privatization of the areas around the lake is so extensive that, aside from the cottages, I didn’t see a single glimpse of water.
On the way back, near the parking lot, I noticed a monument commemorating the fallen and killed residents of the Kallinchen municipality from 1939 to 1945. It’s a very rare sight, as Germans are generally reluctant to mention that period of history.
To the left of the parking lot, towards the northern part of the lake, is a section for fishermen and a small restaurant. Walking in this direction did not disappoint. I enjoyed a pleasant walk along the lake. Of course, there were several fairly old but beautiful piers. There was also no shortage of forests and hunting towers. Naturally, I had to climb one. In the middle of the forest near the lake shore, there was also a large campsite with the option to rent summer cottages. My goal was a fairly large pier at the northern end of the lake. It’s easy to miss the turn leading to it, as it’s located between two campsites. I managed to reach it without any problems, but unfortunately, it’s a private area fenced off with a gate.
Motzener See has been awarded the European Blue Flag, which means that the lake meets very strict rules regarding the cleanliness of the reservoir and surrounding area. For this reason, there are no motorboat rentals in the vicinity. However, it offers three swimming areas, a water slide, boat rentals, pedal boat rentals, and a beach volleyball court. It’s a glacial lake, very popular among surfers, anglers, divers, and also… nudists!
