Brandenburg, The Land of Lakes – Blankensee
Taking advantage of the beautiful weather, I went to the village of Blankensee, located by the lake of the same name.
Blankensee Lake
I started my trip from a free parking lot located near the lake. Despite the rather sharp cold wind, the sunny weather made it an especially inviting day for a walk. Along the way, I came across homemade marmalades on display. Each jar lid had a price written on it, and there was a small metal box for payment in the basket. Unfortunately, this is becoming a rarer sight…
Blankensee Lake and its surrounding area are a wonderful place for many bird species, and it’s common to see enthusiasts with cameras in hand. The lake is not ideal for swimming due to the large amount of grass growth and marshy areas around it. However, it makes up for it with its beautiful surroundings and a pier where you can sit on a bench and relax while looking at the lake.

Blankensee Castle
In the nearby area, there is also Blankensee Castle, built in 1740 for the Saxon governor Christian Wilhelm von Thumen. Of the two wings in the Baroque style, only the western part with the gardener’s house has been preserved. Around the palace is a beautiful park covering approximately 3.5 hectares. While walking through the park, you can come across numerous stunning bridges, sculptures, and unique paths.
The current owner of the castle is the Brandenburg Castle Society, and the grounds are primarily used for events and weddings.
