Brandenburg, Land of Lakes – Templiner See
Brandenburg is located in the northeastern part of Germany, just south of Berlin, and borders Poland. This region has the largest number of surface waters, with many rivers flowing through it, and it is estimated that there are around 3,000 lakes here.
Templiner See
Templiner See is one of many lakes that formed along the course of the Havel River, and it was the first lake on my list to visit in the surrounding area.

On a Saturday afternoon, the first one in many weeks when it wasn’t raining, I headed to Templiner See. I left my car at the free parking lot on Templiner Strasse, right by the railway embankment. I began my trip on the right side of the embankment, following the forest path until I reached the railway bridge, which was also designated for pedestrian traffic. On the bridge, I noticed a significant number of padlocks attached by couples.
After crossing the bridge, I arrived at a private harbor, which was completely fenced off from unauthorized persons. Opposite it stood huge hangars full of boats. From there, I continued towards the large Seminaris hotel and the pier. From the dock, I could see the bridge in the distance, which I had crossed earlier.

On my way back, I walked along the shore of the lake and came across many trees felled by beavers, but unfortunately, I didn’t spot any of them.
Templiner See offers many attractions during the summer season, including:
- beaches,
- kayak and pedal boat rentals,
- boat rentals,
- water taxis,
- a diving base,
- surfing and sailing school,
- hiking and cycling trails,
- a great spot for fishermen,
- a campsite.
I’ll definitely return here again.
